https://quickbooks.intuit.com/ukQuickBooks (primarily QuickBooks Online / QBO) remains the dominant small-business accounting platform in the US, driven by CPA familiarity, a massive integration ecosystem, and expanding AI features—but it faces criticism for rising prices, restrictive user limits, and uneven customer support.
Key Strengths
Accountant compatibility — Most CPAs already use it, which simplifies tax time and collaboration.Integrations — 750–800+ apps (banks, Stripe, Shopify, Gusto, etc.), still among the strongest in the category.
Core accounting — Reliable bank feeds/reconciliation (improved AI matching and confidence scoring), invoicing, expense tracking, and tax-ready reports.
AI / Intuit Intelligence — Stronger auto-categorization, smarter bank matching, conversational insights/Q&A on your data, cash-flow forecasting, invoicing assistance, and expert-verified automation in higher plans. Bank-feed accuracy and usability improved notably.
Mobile app and accessibility — Capable for daily tasks; cloud access from anywhere.
Scalability for many SMBs — Works well from solo operators up to mid-sized teams (with Advanced or Enterprise Suite options for multi-entity needs).
Who It’s Best For
US-based small-to-midsize businesses (especially those with an accountant who already uses QuickBooks).Companies needing solid invoicing, bank reconciliation, inventory/projects (Plus+), multi-user access, or deep integrations.
Businesses that value AI automation and will use the higher-tier features.
Overall verdict:
Still the safe default for many US small businesses thanks to ecosystem lock-in and improving AI, test the AI/bank features against your workflow.
